BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING
OWNERS NEED TO READ THIS !
In December of 2004 the federal government made a very loud and clear statement to business owners that they need to make plans for business continuity and safety. This statement came as part of a law passed that officially recognized the NFPA Standard 1600 as the federal standard for business emergency and continuity planning. The federal government, through adoption of this standard, states that business owners have an obligation to provide:
- emergency plans for your business
- continuity plans for your business
Business continuity planning was highlighted by the 9/11 Commission who urged insurance companies and financial raters to examine a business’s plans before issuing a premium or assigning a financial rating. The commission recognized that business interruptions caused by natural or man made events can cripple the economy. You are already required by OSHA to have emergency plans for your business; failure to do so may be construed as negligence in a court of law. You need to protect your employees, clients and customers and most of all, yourself!
Fire Safety Management Inc. is presently working with several companies here in Vermont formulating business emergency plans and continuity plans. Several business owners that I have spoken to have said that their insurance company has told them they need to have emergency and continuity plans. The possibility exists, as pointed out in the 9/11 Commission report, that higher insurance premiums await those who do not have plans.
I have offered to members of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce a free analysis of their plans to allow them to see where they are and what they are required to have. Due to the response and at the urging of other business owners I have now extended this offer to all Vermont businesses. Give us a call or e-mail us for a free, confidential review of your plans to let you know where you stand in regard to mandatory emergency plans. Let us help you protect your business, employees, clients, customers and most importantly, your family and yourself. Plan for compliance, plan for safety….plan for your future with Fire Safety Management Inc.
